Power, What Power?

As you may have already guessed, we did not get our permanent power today as promised. The power company did come around late this afternoon and measured the cable length for the run to the Supply Building, and they told us they will be here at 9:00AM tomorrow. Tomorrow is Friday and two of our team leave very early Saturday morning. Then four more leave on Monday for the Goroka project. Also, tomorrow, as mentioned by Karen, the trip to May River will happen. There is much to think about as we face this last day that the full team of men is on the job. We did as much preparation as we could today without tearing out the circuits in the Store. We will be taking the store off line tomorrow and will make permanent connections at several locations, if we get power...

It is interesting to note that the walk-in cooler here is cooled entirely by a window air conditioning unit, that has a special controller that allows the unit to cool below any setpoint normally on the unit.

This morning we participated in a birthday celebration for Troy, a young man working here with a friend of his for a few months. Troy turned 19 today. His parents are NTM missionaries and he hails from Canada.

This evening we had dinner at Friends In Action, located a few blocks from here. Friends In Action is a very active part of this NTM organization as well as other mission organizations here in Wewak and the Sepik Region. It was great to see the Sepik Star barge as well as all the equipment and supplies that Friends has on hand to aid these organizations. Mike and Brian and their wives prepared an excellent meal for us and we all had our fill of rice, chili, and curry chicken. We had some meaningful discussions around the table.

I hope to have good news to report tomorrow evening regarding the power issue, the safe return of the May River trekkers, and the parts needed for Goroka. Thanks for your interest and prayers on our behalf!
